New York City is Set to Welcome the FIA Formula E Championship
The FIA Formula E Championship is the world’s first fully electric racing series, and drivers from Brooklyn and Uniondale should be thrilled to learn that its coming to New York City. The Big Apple now joins the likes of Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, Monaco, Paris, and Berlin to play host to one of the most hotly anticipated events on the racing calendar. In fact, New York City has the honor of being home to both the penultimate and ultimate race of the inaugural Championship.
The FIA Formula E Championship
At a press conference on September 21, Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, announced that the City ePrix double-header will become the first FIA-sanctioned open-wheel race in modern history to take place in New York City. In the words of Agag himself, “When we originally started the project we could only dream of bringing Formula E to a place like New York, with arguably the most recognizable skyline of any city in the world.”
The series is pitting 20 F1-style electric racecars against each other on courses that wind through some of the most famous cities in the world. Pushing the boundaries of electric technology and reinventing people’s assumptions about what such vehicles are capable of, it’s a thrilling championship that we can’t wait to welcome to New York City. We can even cheer on an incredible Jaguar vehicle: the searingly powerful I-TYPE 1 race car, which ushered in the creation of Panasonic Jaguar Racing.
The New York Event
The final double-header of the FIA Formula E Championship will be coming to the five boroughs of New York City on July 29 and 30 of 2017, dates that mark the last two rounds of the 2016/17 race calendar.
The 1.21-mile track that will make its way through the city has just be revealed, and it features a staggering 13 turns as it passes through points such as Pier 11 and the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, all with the stunning Manhattan skyline serving as an ideal backdrop.
