2016 Jaguar F-TYPE R CoupeDrivers looking at the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S price and thinking it’s fitting for a Mercedes are on point. While any high-performance car is going to have a price tag that sets it apart from the average family sedan, the base $130,825 MSRP of the GT S should give anyone pause.

The R Coupe model of the 2016 Jaguar F-TYPE is priced starting at $104,595 (MSRP) and gives Freeport and Staten Island drivers a level of performance that leaves the Mercedes wanting.

Raw Specs

There is so much more to a vehicle like the Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe than its specs, but with the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S price on the table, we think it’s important to show off what’s under the hood of the Jaguar.

  • Each Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe has a 5.0L supercharged V8 engine under the hood, kicking out 550 hp (at 6500 RPM) and 502 lb-ft of torque (at 3500 RPM) with a redline of 6600 RPM.
  • The 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S has a 4.0L twin turbocharged V8 powering it with 503 hp (at 6500 RPM) and 479 lb-ft of torque (at 1750 RPM); it has a redline of 7000 RPM.

While the Mercedes can roar a bit louder and deliver its torque a bit sooner, the Jaguar’s specs put it well ahead of the GT S.

Performance and Handling

You would think that all high-performance vehicles would have similar setups to deliver tighter, more responsive handling, but they are actually surprisingly different. For the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S price, you might expect it to take advantage of the power at its disposal better than it does, but the higher power and the responsive handling of the F-TYPE R Coupe make such a lasting impression.

Lifting off the throttle in Dynamic Driving mode lets the Jaguar out of its cage in a way that lets other drivers know you’re behind the wheel of a beast of a car while also giving you full control over that 550 hp. The standard four-wheel drive system helps rein in the power that was formerly directed solely by the rear wheels, letting the Jaguar be as exciting as you want it to be.

In comparing the two vehicles, Car and Driver said of the Jaguar, “On the right road, with your reactions turned up to max, it’s a responsive and rewarding companion.” Their take on the Mercedes was a bit less generous: “You have to switch to the more permissive sport-handling mode if you want to rouse the chassis, thereby revealing a willingness to take instruction from the back end in a benign and predictable manner.”

Test Drive a Jaguar Today

We think that while the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S price does justify some of the sport coupe’s features, it doesn’t explain its lacking power or the added class of the 2016 Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe. And we didn’t mention how Car and Driver not only praised the Jaguar but ranked it above the Mercedes and the 2016 Porsche 911 price as well as on style and features, did we?

Of course, the best way for you to see what the F-TYPE R Coupe has to offer is to contact Jaguar Freeport online or call us at (516) 771-9700 and schedule a visit. We think you’ll have more fun zipping around Staten Island, Freeport, and Huntington in a car with a sense of style.
